Il Wall Street Journal segnala che Google e Dish Network starebbero testando un set-top box basato su Android.
Le informazioni disponibili sono molto limitate: non è chiaro se si tratti di un sistema completo, unicamente di alcune API o di un kernel linux con l’aggiunta di moduli specifici (come nella maggioranza dei set-top box).
Questa soluzione dovrebbe disporre di un telecomando con tastiera (QWERTY) e permettere l’accesso sia ai servizi di Google (ricerca, YouTube, notizie, …) che a quelli di Dish Network.
Attualmente sarebbe in prova per una durata limitata presso un piccolo gruppo di impiegati di Google.
Per Google il mercato dei set-top box potrebbe essere particolarmente allettante, permetterebbe di recuperare del traffico internet sui suoi servizi per poi integrare la sua regia pubblicitaria anche sui televisori.
